For almost four years I was struggling to learn a computer skill,
I would sit down and learn Adobe Flash and action script and I will have a good
progress but I’ll stop mid way to learn something else like Adobe Photoshop or Fruity
Loops (Music Production software), I used to jump from one application to
another or from one language to another, and with the habit of moving around
and wanting to learn everything at once, ill forget.
This was a very bad thing to me, I would sit down and think
that I had a bad memory or even worse, that am not cut out to do this, but
again I will go back and say let me try harder and learn again. And again will
go through the same cycle over and over again.
Now from the problem above, I have realized that I had two
problems to deal with,
1- I am easily distracted and impatient.
2- My memory is not as sharp as it should be.

Easily
Distracted,
Wrote down what I wanted to learn, in a very simple method. I
used a mind mapping software as shown below, three categories and couple of
categories underneath it and I was set on what I really wanted.
And then I started with the first category and associated
the languages within to learn the common ground on both languages and took off
with one I desired. In this case I started with the objective c and learning
how the language did emerge to life and what’s the common ground with C++. And from there on I knew what I wanted to
learn in that particular field.
Memory enhancements.
The Anki Method.
I thought that I would love to access my knowledge that I acquired
through learning anytime - anywhere
without squeezing my brain cells, After a few minutes on Google I found
this article which showed me how I can speed my learning process without
spending countless hours reading and practicing over and over again. It was as
simple as using flashcards.
I won’t go deep into this but I recommend the article for
you if you would love to know how to memories things faster and why would you
need that.
